Flowering shrub or small tree to 15′. Foliage to 5″ long, narrow, glossy; flowers bell-shaped, to 2″ long, yellow to light orange (rarely white). Fruit to 2″ long,
triangular, green fading to black, with a single poisonous seed. The octahedral seeds have been used as good luck charms.
