Sabal bermudana

The Bermuda palm is the only native palm on the island of Bermuda. It grows slowly to a height of 20 feet with a diameter of 1 foot. It has fan or costa-palmate leaves that are dark-green with a bluish cast. It is similar in appearance to the more common Sabal palmetto, but it appears stouter and more robust. It loves calcareous soils, but will tolerate slightly acidic soils as well and prefers full sun as do most Sabals. Its inflorescence is shorter than its leaves and it produces small back fruits.
