This tree is native to the Bahamas, Cuba and Hispaniola. Mature trees can grow up to 20 m, and is noted for its peeling bark along with its pinnate shaped leaves. It bears small, white flowers, which turn into paper-thin seed pods whose outcoating peels off as it matures. Lysiloma sabicu is most valued for its high-density wood. Seed scarification is recommended for best propagation success.
