Livistona chinensis

Winning Bid: $7.00

Although china is in its name and it is called the Chinese Fan Palm, this commonly planted fan palm is mostly from southern Japan, endangered in Taiwan and only a small natural population resides on Hainan Island in China. It has 30 foot tall stems that are about a foot in diameter. It supports a densely packed canopy of 40-60 leaves. Its leaf segments are separated for about half of their length and even these are split again and pendulous as the palm matures. Its petioles are armed with spines when young but mostly lose them at maturity. Its elongated 1-inch fruits are a beautiful glossy greenish blue color.
