Attalea speciosa

This large majestic 60 ft. palm is the an American Oil Palm or “babassu” in Brazil and is distributed from Central and Eastern Brazil to eastern Bolivia and southern Guyana and Suriname. Its 15 ft. leaves are strongly ascending, held in an almost vertical position. Its thick stem is self-cleaning and mostly free of leaf bases. The 4.5-5 inch fruits are among the largest in the genus with 3-8 seeds.
