Artocarpus parvus

Current bid: $9.00

This evergreen tree, commonly known as kwai muk, is native to southern China, Thailand, and Vietnam, and is cultivated well beyond that range for its fruit. Within its genus it is distinguished by dark, rough bark, and by glossy leaves with rather blunt tips and usually six to nine pairs of lateral veins. Like other members of the mulberry family it produces a milky latex, and its tiny flowers are packed into dense inflorescences. Ripe syncarps reach about 5 cm across, with a velvety yellow-orange surface and pink-orange flesh.

Weight: 0.4 oz.
