This tropical palm is native to the Lesser Antilles and northern South America. With its dark green pinnate leaves spread up-right or horizontally from the crown shaft, it considered to be the most ornamental of its genus. It flowers are cream colored, with crimson/ purplish fruits that are black when mature. It grows best in full sun and moist, well-draining soils.
