Zamia variegata is a cycad species native to Belize, Mexico and Guatemala. It has subterranean stems and produces a small number of erect leaves up to 13 feet tall bearing strongly serrated papyraceous leaflets up 18 inches long and 2.3 inches wide. The species is the only cycad with variegated leaflets and gets its name from this unique trait. The variegation is yellow and variable between different plants, with some being much more variegated than others.
