The Montgomery palm is from the Vanuatu Islands and the name honors Rober H. Montgomery, founder of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and whose former home is now the Montgomery Botanical Center. It inhabits rainforests, reaches a height of 80 ft. with a 1 ft. diameter stem and has a slightly bulging 5 ft. crownshaft. It bears beautiful bright red fruits on 3 ft. long inflorescences. A fast grower, it easily survives hurricane force winds.
