Sabal minor

This small, cold-hardy, fan-leaved palm is found throughout much of the SE United States as far north as Oklahoma and North Carolina, often in swampy, shady conditions. It mostly has a subterranean to short stem. Leaves are shallowly costa-palmate, sometimes appearing as though the semi-circular leaf blade is split down the middle. Its beautiful inflorescences laden with shiny small black fruits often greatly exceed the height of the leaves.
