This indigenous Cuban palm grows to 30 ft x 6 inches in cultivation and displays a beautiful woven mesh design of fibers on the younger parts of its stems. Its canopy is 12 ft wide and 8 ft tall and more rounded than most in its genus. Its fan-shaped, palmate leaves are a shiny dark green to almost bluish green above and silvery gray below. It grows well in full sun and well drained soils including calcareous soils.
