Coccothrinax miraguama ssp. havanensis

Current bid: $12.00

This slender, solitary silver palm is endemic to western Cuba, around Havana (Havana and Mayabeque provinces). It is the Havana-area population of the widespread and variable Cuban C. miraguama and grows on hill slopes. Its type comes from a limestone hill at Playa de Jibacoa. León separated it by its longer segment tips, and its leaves are noticeably larger than those of subsp. roseocarpa from Matanzas. Otherwise it shares the characters of C. miraguama as a whole. The trunk is about 3–7 m tall and 6.5 cm in diameter, with stout, woody, loosely woven leaf-sheath fibers. The leaves are stiff and leathery, lie flat, and are densely hairy and silvery beneath. Their broad segments narrow abruptly toward the tip. Inflorescences curve or hang among the leaves, and the small fruits are about 6–11 mm across.

Weight: 0.1 oz.
