Bixa orellana

This ornamental tree, also known as the lipstick tree, is native to Central America. It is a small tree that typically grows up to 12 ft. in cultivation, but can reach heights up to 30 ft. Its bears attractive pink flowers and has stricking, spiny, red fruit capsules. Inside are small seeds covered in a waxy orange/red pulp commonly used for dye extracts.
