This slender, spiny palm is native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, including parts of Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela. It is commonly known as Bactris major and belongs to the Arecaceae family. The palm is characterized by its pinnate leaves, which are dark green and arch gracefully from a crown that is supported by a thin, spiny trunk. Bactris major produces small, round fruits that are typically orange or red when ripe, clustered on a spiny inflorescence. The palm can reach heights of up to 15-20 feet, with a trunk diameter of about 2-4 inches. It is well adapted to humid tropical climates and is often found in lowland rainforests and along riverbanks.
