The Cuban petticoat palm is a spectacular palm endemic to the savannas of NW and central Cuba. Its 15 foot stem is usually hidden by dead persistent leaves as wide as its round crown, which is 12-15 feet wide. Its wedge-shaped leaves are 5-7 feet wide with stiff, narrow leaflet segments armed with tiny teeth along their margins. Its six foot long inflorescences extend beyond its leaves, bearing short stout branches and one-half inch round black fruits.
