This Livistona with its heavily armed petioles is native to SE Asia from China to Borneo and the Philippines. It usually grows to a height of 50 ft, but up to 100 ft in the wild and with a 1 ft diameter stem. It grows in swampy forests and clearings. The petioles with their large to 3″ black curve teeth persist on the stem. It grows fast when young and produces long yellow sparsely branched inflorescences up to 5 ft long.
