Shrub or small tree to 15′. Foliage to 3″ long, glossy green with pointed tips. Flowers pink to lavender, with 5 ruffled, clawed petals (typical of family).
The marble-sized, bright red, sour fruits are a rich source of Vitamin C and are used in dietary supplements.
Syn: M. glabra.
