The Royal palm is widely distributed from Mexico, throughout the Caribbean to Southern Florida and the Western Bahamas. It grows to a height of 100 ft. with a 2 ft. diameter stem. Its beautiful crownshaft bears slightly plumose leaves that are slightly pendant, dipping below their horizontal. It can get beat up in high winds, but survives high intensity storms. The flowers are white and the fruits a blackish purplish color. It has survived temperatures in the mid 20s. It can grow one or more ft. per year with adequate irrigation.
