A solitary palm native to Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the British Virgin Islands, Sabal causiarum is one of the largest Sabals. Reaching heights of up to 12 m, its slender petioles can grow up to 1.5 m tall while its trunk can have a diameter of at least 4 m. It quickly loses its older leaves, exposing a smooth gray trunk. Can tolerate temperatures as low as 20 F, and grows in most soils, so long as it is well draining. Prone to potassium deficiency.
